Most exterior brick walls are simply a veneer over the structural frame, and are single thickness. If it is a bearing wall, it will be backed up by concrete blocks. They may be concerned about its structural adequacy, but I think it’s more likely they are looking for a way to back out of the deal

The lender is buying your house, they are making the investment and if something isnt right, it has to be fixed to meet the appraisal requirements. Whether you think it is petty or not doesnt matter- as they are buying the house for you. The only way to avoid lender requirements is to save up enough money to buy the house in cash. Though in this case, if something isn’t structurally sound it’s in your own best interest to have it taken care of! Ask your realtor to negotiate for repairs with the seller.
If there is a question in your mind about the structural integrity of this house then maybe you should back off and think about it some more. You may find something that will satisfy you and be free of doubts regarding the structure. I personally don’t know if I could do this deal. Any way, good luck!
Ihave just read some of the answers you have recieved and feel they are well thought out and sound. However,could it be something as simple as no room for insulation? Why not ask them?
