So if you get a 1% reduction for automatic payments you lose that. If you get a reduction for no late payments within a certain time frame you will lose that. Your interest rate will not be as low as well. Your first interest rate is a set rate that everyone gets your next one if you consolidate will be based off your credit score. Ultimately you will pay more in the long run. I guess you have to look at your situation and see what is the best option for you. I plan to finish school and then go to nursing school part-time and work full-time. I will be able to pay for my classes since they will be cheaper at the junior college and I'm going to save money to pay on my loans. But since you can consolidate only when you graduate or leave school it's best to hold off until you're done with a degree.
